Hi, I’m Karen Salmansohn.

I’m a bestselling author (with 2 million books and courses sold), leading Behavioral Change Expert, columnist for Oprah and Psychology Today, plus founder of the popular personal development site NotSalmon.com, with a vibrant community of 1.5 million followers.

I've been sparking transformations in individuals and companies for a few decades.

I’m passionate about digging deep - and finding fascinating insights, tools and studies from all areas of life: psychology, Eastern and Western philosophy, neuroscience, biology, nutrition, quantum physics, etc!

Plus I confess I have platonic crush on the Greek philosopher Aristotle. I even named my son "Ari" as a wink to him.

I’m known for challenging the norms.

I was the first to write what’s been called:

“Self help for people who wouldn’t be caught dead doing self help.”

It began in 1999… when I wrote & creative directed How To Be Happy Dammit - the 1st personal development book of its kind - to have a feisty title - edgy humor - stylish interior design.

It became an international bestseller.

Plus it paved the way for other self help authors to write irreverant personal development books.

I’ve also launched many other bestsellers.

“Prince Harming Syndrome.”

“The Bounce Back Book.”

“Think Happy.”

“How To Succeed in Business Without a Penis”

and then some…

Now I’m embracing a new, brave mission… pioneering The Mortality Awareness Movement.

I’m excited to illuminate life's most avoided conversation:

Death.

Mortality Awareness is not about doom & gloom. It’s about joy & bloom.

It’s about using death as a cheeky nudge to live more bravely.

Studies report that accepting your mortality’s reality is a powerful catalyst for prioritizing what truly matters - and motivating people to live a regret-free life.

With this in mind, I've written a new book (due out soon).

Plus I created this website (here now) where I offer coaching programs, workshops and keynotes - all loaded up with a range of gentle (and not-so-gentle) nudgy Mortality Reminders - to encourage you to wake up and smell the mortality - remembering you’re not here on this planet forever.

Please know:

My mission is not to make people obsessed with death.

Quite the opposite.

It's to motivate people to infuse more meaning and purpose into their every day life.

I simply want to encourage people to recognize that since our time here is limited, we better make damn sure it’s time well spent.

And nothing kicks you in the pants to seize the day …like remembering your days are numbered!

As a thought leader in this uncharted territory, my goal is to guide, challenge, and uplift.

I'm here to show people that talking about death isn't morbid.

It's a profound way to appreciate life.

Mortality Awareness is a powerful reminder that we’re here… then we’re not.

So, let’s make the “here” part ridiculously awesome.

We’ll be starting with your final curtain call - and working backward.

  • What tales do you want told at your eulogy?

  • What legacy do you want to leave behind?

To figure all this out, we’ll be conducting life audits, brainstorming legacy projects, and revamping day-to-day life - with a bit more intention - and a lot more authenticity.

Get ready to turn up the volume on your life!

Ironically, when you become Death Aware

…you become a Life Enthusiast.

It’s like discovering a secret spice that makes every moment of life taste more incredible.

A pinch of Mortality Awareness can turn even the blandest day into a more delicious one.

And I’m here to share some incredible recipes to help you to cook up a life that's meaningful, authentic, and so full of gusto, you might even forget to check your phone for a whole ten minutes.

Deciding to pioneer the Mortality Awareness Movement was a deeply personal choice.

At the age of 63, I found myself thinking more (amd more) about my mortality.

It first started when I lost my father - about 2 decades ago. Then when I became a late in life mother, to my son Ari, my thoughts around mortality amplified further.

These moments of death and birth reshaped my understanding of time.

I found myself reassessing my priorities - eager to live more intentionally - cherishing small moments more often - expressing love more frequently - doing whatever I could each day to focus more on what matters most.

Eventually I created a Mortality Inspired System to support myself in living more fully and intentionally.

This led me to create a “Legacy Project” - which became my new book (soon to come) - and this new website (here now).

My Legacy’s Mission:

I want to inspire people all around the world …to transform their fear of death into a powerful motivator… to live more bravely, authentically, fiercely… with a heart-wide-open to love, joy and growth.

Because, my friends, realizing that you don't have all the time in the world …. is a potent motivator to make the most of the limited time you do have.

And so my new “death awareness” book (and this website) are meant to serve as a loving "pause" button on the hectic rush of your life… encouraging you to take the time to ask yourself, "What's truly important to you?"

My book (and this site) are for those of you who want to live with fewer regrets, enjoy deeper connections, and indulge in a richer tapestry of life experiences.

After all, life’s too short to spend it as a knock-off version of yourself.

  • When you learn to fully embrace your mortality… you will suddenly find the courage to be more unapologetically you.

  • You will shift your perspective from fear to inspiration… from avoidance to engagement.

  • Mortality Awareness makes every little moment deliciously more important.

  • It gives you the gentle nudge to say “yes” to the adventure… to tell people you love them… and to wear the fancy underwear on a Tuesday.

So, I warmly invite you to join me on this journey …and discover how embracing the finite nature of your existence… can be the ultimate motivator to live your best life!
